Slaying The Dragon

One thing for sure if you are going to fight the dragon you are in for one hellacious fight. You can take him on in your area or you can travel to his hideaways but the fight won’t change. In the end one will perish and the other will go about his business.

The bad part about fighting the dragon is to be able to recognize him. He is secretive and usually hides in many unlikely places and ways. Of course you will find him in time and you may even wish you had not for when the battle begins it is always with the understanding that one must perish.

Since most of us have created our dragon we make the mistake of thinking that he is under our control but in truth he is not and never was. Once we accept him as “our” dragon we belong to him and that is what makes the battle so difficult.

Through the years many have managed to defeat the dragon but so many, many more have been trampled under his heavy foot. The beginning is low profile and seductive, the end is an all out life and death battle that wrings the very blood out of you. This truly is a battle where to the victor belongs the spoils and so much is lost that the accounting can never be done.

I write this to say I have been trying to fight the dragon for someone close to me for about ten years now and I know that there are others out there trying to do the same but it can not be done. No one can slay another’s dragon and in the end your efforts can push the loved one further into the grip of the master slayer. Be there, be helpful, be caring but most of all be careful.
